CornCAP®
A valuable addition to your Helicoverpa IPM program in corn
CornCAP® capsules contain up to 10,000 parasitic wasp pupae (Trichogramma pretiosum) for the suppression of pest caterpillars (e.g. Helicoverpa armigera & Spodoptera frugiperda) in corn. Upon emergence from the capsule, adult parasitic wasps search for pest eggs. Females lay eggs inside the pest eggs, where the developing wasp larvae consume its contents, preventing pest emergence. The next generation of adult Trichogramma wasps then emerge, mate and parasitise other pest eggs, providing ongoing suppression.
Early, inoculative releases are key to CornCAP® effectiveness! Multiple releases are recommended due to the limited dispersal range of Trichogramma (± 20m per generation) and the extended egg-laying period of target pests over several weeks.
Note: CornCAP® alone rarely provides complete control of Helicoverpa and FAW, but it is a valuable addition to your IPM program. It is compatible with other biocontrol products (e.g. NPV). A selective larvicide may be necessary for additional control at silking depending on pest pressure.
